McLeish meninggalkan klub yang berada di Championship Inggris itu setelah meraih satu kemenangan, dua imbang, dan empat kekalahan setelah menggantikan Sean O'Driscoll pada Desember lalu. Mantan manajer timnas Skotlandia dan Aston Villa itu mengatakan alasan pengunduran diri tersebut adalah adanya perbedaan dalam strategi pengembangan tim. "Saya benar-benar kecewa karena harus meninggalkan klub ini setelah periode yang sangat singkat. Meskipun demikian menjadi sebuah kehormatan bagi saya menjadi manajer klub sepakbola fantastis seperti ini. Saya ingin berterima kasih kepada para pemain, staf, dan fans atas dukungannya. Saya berharap Nottingham Forest bisa melakukan yang terbaik di masa depan," kata McLeish dalam pernyataan resmi klub. "Kedua pihak masuk ke dalam hubungan ini dengan sebuah kepercayaan yang bagus, namun ternyata terdapat perbedaan dalam pengetahuan untuk mengembangkan strategi klub ini.
